WHAT ARE SPIDER VEINS?

Spider veins are small, dilated veins that show through the top layer of skin as red or blue threads. These tiny blood vessels commonly appear on the legs, face or chest and are caused by a weakness in the vein walls. The causes are varied: genetic predisposition, hormonal changes (e.g. during puberty or pregnancy) and an unhealthy lifestyle with lack of exercise or excess weight. Prolonged standing or sitting, sun exposure and ageing can also encourage their development. Spider veins are common and usually present a cosmetic concern.

The skin in the affected areas is particularly sensitive and requires careful care with gentle cosmetics.

One in three people suffer from spider veins. Studies show they are very common, affecting roughly 50–55% of women and 40–45% of men. The risk increases with age. Women are more often affected, often attributed to hormonal differences.

Care for sensitive skin with spider veins

We recommend using our Bee Cream to care for sensitive skin affected by spider veins.

Bee Cream
The bedrop Bee Cream is a bee venom salve and contains a high concentration of bee venom. The Bee Cream is intended for the natural care of sensitive skin.

The natural herbal extracts in the Bee Cream provide a cooling, pleasant sensation on the skin, leaving it feeling refreshed and light.

We recommend applying the Bee Cream several times a day to the affected area and allowing it to absorb. You can use the Bee Cream neat or mix it with a body lotion (for example, the bedrop Royale Lotion) before applying.

Spider veins develop due to a weakness
in the vein walls that leads to enlarged, visible blood vessels. The causes
of spider veins are varied and include both genetic and
lifestyle factors.

WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS SAY

Very good products! Using Bedrop Cream for about three weeks and my spider veins are fading...

My spider veins have faded thanks to the cream. They’re barely visible now and I can wear short skirts and shorts much more confidently again

I’m really surprised that this cream delivers what it promises. After only a few applications the spider veins have already reduced. I can therefore warmly recommend the bedrop Cream. Summer can come!

The Bee Cream is the best thing that could have happened to me — I’m on my feet all day and the Bee Cream helps me a lot. My legs no longer feel as heavy, which is a wonderful bonus. I originally bought the Bee Cream for my spider veins: they haven’t disappeared but have become a little paler. I hope they continue to fade; I’ve only been using the cream for 5 weeks, so I’m optimistic. Thank you

Spider Veins: Bee Venom Cream for beautifully cared-for skin & legs

Spider veins are the delicate, usually blue-red capillaries that mainly appear on the legs — and sometimes on the face. They can form subtle or pronounced patterns and are often regarded as cosmetically unattractive.

From a health perspective, spider veins are harmless in most cases, but many people feel uncomfortable in their skin and look for gentle solutions to improve how their skin feels.

Find out here what causes them, how spider veins develop, and how you can care for your legs with natural remedies and harness the power of bees — for more confidence and a noticeable lightness in everyday life.

What causes spider veins?

Spider veins are small, superficial venous branches that appear as thin red or bluish lines visible through the skin¹². Unlike varicose veins, they are less conspicuous but often make people feel self-conscious about showing their legs — especially in summer.

Around 60 to 80 percent of adults suffer from spider veins at some point in their lives². Women are more often affected, due to hormonal fluctuations and their looser connective tissue.

While varicose veins are thicker and more twisted, spider veins run directly under the skin surface. On the face (especially on the nose and cheeks) they are also called telangiectasia. Fine facial capillaries that appear as spider veins often result from predisposition, extreme temperature changes or intense sun exposure.

The cause of spider veins is usually a congenital weakness of the connective tissue¹²³. But there are other factors:

Genetic predisposition

  • Influence on spider veins: If there is a family history, spider veins are more likely to occur.

Hormones (puberty, pregnancy, the pill)

  • Effect on spider veins: Female hormones can weaken connective tissue; the risk increases particularly during pregnancy.

Lack of exercise & prolonged standing

  • Effect on spider veins: Too little movement impairs venous return, causing the veins to dilate.

Overweight

  • Effect on spider veins: Increases venous pressure and further strains the vessel walls.

Smoking & Alcohol

  • Effect on spider veins: Can damage connective tissue and impair circulation.

Age

  • Effect on spider veins: As you age, tissue tension decreases; spider veins become more noticeable.

Intense sun exposure (especially on the face)

  • Effect on spider veins: Can promote the formation of telangiectasia in sensitive skin¹³.

Are spider veins anything to worry about?

Spider veins are normally not painful. They are usually purely a cosmetic concern. However, if you also experience heavy, swollen or aching legs, the skin feels warm, or the veins are noticeably increasing rapidly, a medical evaluation is recommended.¹³⁴

Important: Our recommendations and products are intended as a complementary care routine – they do not replace medical treatment.

Care for sensitive skin with spider veins

Many people look for a gentle treatment. Natural lotions and creams or cooling gels can provide a pleasant skin feel. Preparations containing bee venom (such as the bedrop Bee Cream) are especially popular. The included herbal extract has a pleasantly cooling effect on the skin.

Tip: Regular application is key. Natural creams with valuable ingredients from the beehive are ideal if you want to avoid chemical additives.

Checklist: What you can do yourself about spider veins

  • Regular exercise (e.g. walks, leg exercises for veins)
  • Alternate sitting, standing and walking – avoid prolonged sitting!
  • Elevate your legs during the day
  • Cold contrast showers – they help train the veins
  • A fresh diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables and little salt
  • Avoid smoking & alcohol where possible

With natural care products containing bee venom and an active daily routine you can improve your wellbeing and thus help support the appearance of your skin.

What are spider veins and how do they differ from varicose veins?

Spider veins are small, net-like dilations of blood vessels directly beneath the skin surface. Unlike varicose veins, they are shallower, usually cause no discomfort and are considered a purely cosmetic issue¹².

What can I do in everyday life if spider veins bother me cosmetically?

Many people view spider veins mainly as a cosmetic concern. A regular care routine can help the skin feel cared for and comfortable. Gentle moisturising, small care rituals and mindful self-care moments are often used to give your body attention and improve how your skin feels day to day.

How can I care for my skin with spider veins?

Nourishing creams are commonly used to keep the skin supple and give it a well-groomed appearance. Many people also add more movement to their daily routine or give their legs deliberate rest periods, for example by elevating them or taking short relaxation breaks. These routines are centred on wellbeing and self-care.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What are spider veins?

Spider veins are small dilated veins visible as red or blue threads through the top layer of skin. They commonly appear on the legs, face or chest and develop due to weakness in the vein walls. Causes can include genetic factors, hormonal changes or an unhealthy lifestyle. Spider veins are usually regarded as a cosmetic concern.

Bee venom for spider veins

Bee venom can support the treatment of spider veins by activating various biological mechanisms that may improve the appearance of the vessels:

  1. Improved circulation: Substances in bee venom such as melittin and phospholipase A2 can promote circulation. Improved blood flow may reduce blood stagnation.
  2. Strengthening the vein walls: Bee venom contains enzymes and peptides that could potentially improve the structure and firmness of the vein walls.
  3. Promoting cell regeneration: The bioactive substances in bee venom can support the regeneration and repair of skin tissue.
  4. Increasing tissue permeability: Hyaluronidase in bee venom can increase tissue permeability, which could improve the uptake of nutrients and the removal of metabolic waste.
