Bee resin & wellbeing: What makes propolis so special
Propolis
Propolis is the "protective resin" of bees and has been prized for millennia as one of nature’s most fascinating substances.
At bedrop we combine the traditional use of bee products with a commitment to modern purity. But what makes Propolis so special, and how can you best incorporate it into your daily routine?
What’s behind the formula?
Bees produce Propolis from the resins of various trees, buds and pollen, refining them with their own secretions. In the hive it acts as a “natural immune system”: sealing the hive against drafts and helping keep it free from microbes.
- Polyphenol power
The secret of Propolis is its complex composition. It contains over 300 natural constituents, including valuable flavonoids and polyphenols, which contribute to its protective properties.
- Highest purity
We ensure our Propolis is lab-tested and free from unnecessary additives—available as a highly concentrated tincture (alcohol-based or water-soluble), capsule or spray.
- Sustainable beekeeping
We work closely with beekeepers who put the wellbeing of their bees first. Our Propolis is harvested gently, without disturbing the balance of the colony.
Propolis in everyday life
Many of our users report how versatile Propolis is in their daily routines. It’s more than a supplement—it's a functional companion for every season.
Whether as a Propolis mouth spray for on the go, a Propolis tincture with dropper for targeted use, or organic Propolis capsules for your daily routine. Propolis is designed to support you in your own rhythm. Many customers also use Propolis for skin care for minor blemishes or irritations to benefit from its regenerating texture.
Are there any side effects of propolis?
Since it’s a pure natural product, propolis is generally very well tolerated. It’s concentrated nature’s defence, without artificial flavours or preservatives.
What you should watch for:
- Allergies
Propolis can be an allergen. People with a known allergy to bee stings, bee products or mugwort/aster family should perform a patch test before first use (for example, one drop in the crook of the arm).
- Alcohol content
Traditional tinctures often contain alcohol. For children, pregnant people or pets, we therefore offer special alcohol-free variants based on water.
- Staining
Use with care! Pure propolis is highly resinous and can leave stubborn brown stains on clothing and surfaces.
Usage tip: For general protection, just a few drops of the tincture or a couple of sprays from the mouth spray daily are often enough.

FAQ
What does propolis taste like?
Propolis has a very intense, sharp-bitter and resinous taste. Many users therefore mix the drops with honey or water to soften the characteristic burning sensation and mild numbness in the mouth.
Does propolis help with colds?
Users report that, especially at the first signs such as a scratchy throat, they experience soothing effects due to the antibacterial properties. To support the immune system, it is often used preventively or alongside traditional home remedies.
Are there any side effects from propolis?
The most common side effect is a contact allergy, especially in people who are hypersensitive to bee products or essential oils. A short patch test on the inner forearm is strongly recommended before first use to rule out reactions.
Which propolis tincture is the best?
Choice and effectiveness depend on the solvent: alcohol-based tinctures extract the active compounds most effectively and are ideal for skin care. Alcohol-free variants (water- or glycerine-based), on the other hand, are milder and better suited for children or sensitive mucous membranes.
Where can I find genuine propolis testimonials?
