The mandibles are part of the bee's jaw and fulfill various functions in the bee colony. Among other things, they are used to feed the larvae, process pollen and wax, defend against intruders and clean the hive. The shape and structure of the mandibles differ depending on the bee caste, i.e. in drones, worker bees and the queen bee.
