In the course of its life, the bee takes on various tasks. Between the 6th and 10th day of life, for example, it is active as a nurse bee. During this phase, it initially provides the young larvae with a mash of honey and pollen.

In addition, it produces royal jelly in its head glands, which is used to feed both the bee larvae and the queen bee.
