Honeydew

Honeydew refers to the sugary excretions of certain plant-sucking insects such as aphids, bark lice or cicadas. These extract large quantities of sugar from the plant sap, of which they only utilize a portion. The excess sugar is released again and settles as fine, sticky droplets - similar to a sweet dew - on needles or leaves. This coating is sometimes referred to as leaf honey. When bees collect this honeydew, they process it into forest honey, also known as honeydew honey.
