Propolis in daily gum care

Healthy, well-cared for gums are the basis for a good feeling in the mouth. However, care often falls by the wayside in everyday life: poor oral hygiene and plaque can lead to gums becoming more sensitive and requiring more attention. This is an issue that affects adults just as much as children - regardless of age.
When the gums need more attention
Sometimes the gums show subtle signs that they are reacting more sensitively: They may appear redder or feel more sensitive when brushing teeth. Such changes are often inconspicuous at first and are easily overlooked in everyday life. If you become aware of this early on and adjust your oral hygiene routine, you can do a lot to care for your mouth.
If care is neglected, the appearance of the skin around the mouth can change significantly. In such cases, regular visits to the dentist are the most important step - professional assessment and care should always be in the hands of a dentist.

In addition to the inflammation and symptoms of the gums, the right treatment is of great importance. Bacteria in the gums can spread rapidly and cause periodontal disease. The well-known visit to the dentist is important in order to maintain the status of the inflammation. Alternative medicine, on the other hand, attaches great importance to natural support with tea tree oil and, above all, propolis.
A study from 2020 specialized in the effectiveness of propolis in mouthwash against plaque and gingivitis. In the study, propolis showed antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. Nine randomized controlled trials with a total of 333 participants were conducted and evaluated for the results. Raw propolis wasused in eight of the studies. Seven studies used 2 % chlorhexidine and two studies used 0.12 % chlorhexidine.
The results indicate that mouth rinses with propolis have benefits in reducing plaque and gingivitis. While the studies suggest a potential benefit of propolis-basedmouthwashes for plaque and gingivitis, the results should be viewed with caution due to the very low-quality evidence currently available.

Propolis in your oral care routine
The use of propolis in daily oral care is varied - we distinguish between diluted and pure application. For your daily routine, you can use the bedrop 10 % propolis tincture as a self-mixed propolis mouthwash or the alcohol-free propolis mouth spray.
You can easily make your own propolis mouthwash and use it for a thorough mouth rinse after brushing your teeth. You can find out how to do this in this blog article.
The alcohol-free propolis mouth spray is particularly practical for when you're on the go: a few sprays in the mouth, let it soak in briefly - done. It is suitable for use several times a day and complements your oral care routine, especially when you don't have the opportunity to brush your teeth.
If you also want to supplement your oral care routine from the inside, you can use bedrop propolis capsules. We recommend taking two capsules a day, ideally in the morning with or after a meal.
