ABOUT MANUKA HONEY SPRAY
What makes Manuka honey different?
The difference between Manuka honey and conventional (German) honey lies in the way the honey nectar is extracted. The bees collect the nectar from the flowers of the manuka plant. Manuka (also known as South Sea myrtle) grows and thrives exclusively in New Zealand. The flowering period of manuka is only a few weeks - during this time the bees harvest properly. The amount of honey produced varies from year to year, as the honey harvest depends on external factors such as seasonal natural conditions. The main difference between Manuka honey and the beekeeper's honey around the corner is the methylglyoxal content, which is very high in Manuka honey, and the rarity of the honey. More Manuka honey is sold than is available, so genuine Manuka honey should always be certified with the appropriate MGO content. Our bedrop Manuka honey is certified with an MGO content of 400+ and is 100% from the best areas and beekeepers in New Zealand.
What does MGO mean?
MGO stands for Methylglyoxal, which is the fixed and significant component of Manuka Honey. The content of methylglyoxal can vary in each Manuka honey harvest. The higher the MGO content, the greater the effect. Methylglyoxal is said to have an anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effect. The plant contains the plant sugar dihydroxyacetone, which the bees convert to methylglyoxal with their digestive enzymes. From an MGO content of 400, the special effect can unfold in the honey. The maturation of MGO begins the moment the bees place the honey in the comb and add their digestive enzyme. After the beekeeper harvests the Manuka honey, the honey can continue to mature and gain its unique quality. However, this process depends on the experience and care of the individual beekeeper. According to laboratory analysis, Bedrop Manuka honey has an MGO content of at least 491 and is considered to be high-quality, certified Manuka honey.

What is propolis?
Propolis is known as the bee resin that the bees use for insulation and repair work when building the hive. Propolis keeps out unwanted visitors and other insects. The seal prevents moisture and bacteria from entering the hive and the returning bees use the propolis as a kind of disinfectant. By rubbing the propolis at the entrance, the bees are disinfected and the bacteria remain outside the hive. For this reason, propolis is said to have an antibiotic, disinfecting effect, which can help heal inflammations and other infections. The propolis produced by the bees contains important nutrients such as calcium and zinc, which can have an anti-inflammatory and preventative effect. The best known and therefore most practical form of propolis is propolis tincture.
What is aniseed?
In naturopathy, aniseed is considered to have an antispasmodic and expectorant effect and can help with digestive disorders, bronchial complaints, phlegm and respiratory infections. A tea with the combination of fennel, caraway and aniseed is often prepared for this purpose. The combination of the three herbs is often used by young mothers to stimulate milk production as a lactation tea. The taste of aniseed is sweet and spicy at the same time. The aromatic spice is often compared to the taste of licorice.

Storage and shelf life
The Manuka-Propolis-Anis Spray should always be stored in a cool, dark place at room temperature. We have filled our Manuka Spray in a dark bottle so that the contents are protected from light.
In general, honey must NOT be stored in the refrigerator because honey can absorb water and become osmotic. This has negative effects such as poor quality and reduced shelf life of the Manuka honey. Therefore, do not store the spray in the refrigerator!
The high sugar content in the honey serves as a natural preservative, which means that the honey can be kept for many years. However, the active ingredients in the honey decrease with the expiry of the best-before date, so it is advisable to consume the honey within the specified best-before date.
