Use of propolis for rosacea and cuperosis

Rosacea is a a skin disease characterized by persistent redness, inflammation and irregularities on the face. Rosacea and cuperosis cannot be distinguished directly at first glance and are often confused for this reason.
Rosacea in medicine
Rosacea is a common skin condition that is diagnosed and treated by dermatologists and general practitioners. It is thought that factors such as genetic predisposition, sunlight, heat, alcohol and food intolerances can contribute. Symptoms of rosacea include persistent redness on the face, inflammation, blemishes and occasionally eye irritation or inflammation. Treatment for rosacea depends on the severity of symptoms and may include topical creams, antibiotics, cortisone, oral medications or laser therapy.
Early diagnosis and treatment of rosacea can help slow the progression of the condition and relieve symptoms. It is important to see a dermatologist or general practitioner if rosacea is suspected.
Difference between rosacea and cuperosis
While cuperosis refers to the presence of small, dilated blood vessels in the skin that are often visible as red or purple lines or patches, rosacea is a serious inflammatory skin condition that can have more serious consequences. Although cuperosis is a cosmetic disorder, it is generally harmless and causes no other symptoms, just the visible patches on the cheeks, nose and chin.
Rosacea is also caused by genetic factors as well as environmental factors such as sunlight, heat, alcohol and intolerance to certain foods. The symptoms manifest themselves in the form of redness, swelling and irregularities on the skin.
Although both conditions can cause redness on the face, they differ in cause and symptoms. Cuperosis is a cosmetic disorder and does not usually cause inflammation or swelling, whereas rosacea is an inflammatory condition and can cause inflammation and irregularities in addition to redness. Treatment for cuperosis usually focuses on cosmetic treatments such as laser therapy.
Study propolis and rosacea
The correct treatment of rosacea and cuperosis is of great importance so that the symptoms do not worsen and do not lead to further consequences such as eye inflammation for those affected. It is important to know the status of the disease from specialized doctors, but alternative medicine, on the other hand, places great value on natural support, including propolis.
There are only limited scientific studies on the use of propolis for rosacea. A 2015 study investigated the effect of propolis on the skin of rats with induced rosacea and found that topical application of propolis improved the appearance of the skin and reduced inflammation. Another small study with 10 participants in 2013 found that propolis cream can help reduce redness and inflammation in patients with rosacea.
However, it is important to note that these studies are very limited and the effects are very individual to each person. Before using propolis for the very first time, carry out a small allergy test on the palm of your hand. To do this, apply 1-2 drops to the palm of your hand and leave to soak in for approx. 30 minutes. If no allergic reaction occurs, propolis can be used to support rosacea or cuperosis.
